Below, I will explain the benefits of drinking more during the day and give you the steps to help you create this deliciously refreshing Jamaican Agua Fresca!

So, what’s Jamaican Agua Fresca?

First, it’s important to know what Jamaican Agua Fresca is a kind of tea that’s made from the sepals of a roselle flower, called the hibiscus sabdariffa.

The color and flavor of Jamaican Agua Fresca look a lot like tart cranberry, but it has a much more subtle tea flavor. The drink tastes amazing when it is served cold and is especially popular in Mexico and the Caribbean.

It’s my go to trick when I need a little self care and want to mentally escape and “feel” like I’m on vacation in the Caribbeans. Get a cute cocktail glass, an umbrella straw with a slice of lime! Yes, girl! I’m on vacation right now just thinking about this.

How do you make Jamaican Agua Fresca?

You can easily make Jamaican Agua Fresca yourself! You take a staycation from the comfort of home. All you need is 3 cups of boiling water, 6 cups of water on room temperature, ¾ cup of sugar ( or monk fruit sweetener) and 2 ounces of dried hibiscus flowers. You can also add 2 cups of ice if you want to serve the Jamaican Agua Fresca immediately.

Once you’ve gathered all the ingredients, simply pour the cups of boiling water over the hibiscus flowers. Then, wait 20 minutes and let the petals soak in the hot water.

When the 20 minutes are over, you can pour the Jamaican Agua Fresca through a strainer to filter the flowers out of the water so you only have the tea itself left. If you’re creative, find a unique way to use the left over hibiscus flowers. My mind sends me to the bathtub with these petals. That sounds super exotic and relaxing to soak in the tub with these petals. This was make for an epic Self Care Sunday routine! Warning: I have never tried this so I have no idea if it would stain the tub red or not. However, let me know in the comments if you try them in the tub!

When you have discarded the flowers, add the ¾ cup of sugar to it and keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved, which will take about 1 to 2 minutes.

Now add the other 6 cups of water and try it! If it’s not sweet enough, you can always add more sugar or add more water if it’s already to sweet for your taste. That’s all there is too it! Now, sit back and relax while you enjoy your home made Jamaican Agua Fresca! Cheers to better health and water with a twist!
